This quilt can be seen on a small barn behind the parsonage of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, W2880 Granton Road.  The barn was originally used by some of the church’s early pastors to keep cows, horses, and chickens.  In more recent years it has housed maintenance equipment.  The congregation was considering have the 100+ year old building razed, but decided instead to invest in its future, having it painted and installing a new metal roof.  Noting the quilts appearing on other barns in the area, the members commissioned one to adorn their barn.  The congregation wanted a design appropriate for the property and agreed that the quilt should depict “Luther’s Seal”, a five-petaled white flower with heart and cross, encircled by gold and black rings.
